Best of Algarve

Our personal favorites include: surfing on the best spots and beaches in Algarve, watching sunset over the ocean from the gorgeous cliffs of Sagres.

A “must” is a visit of historic and lovely city of Lagos that offers buzzing nightlife, charming historic center with fish and fruit market and glorious beaches with finest natural feature Ponta da Piedade.

For kids (but not only) we recommend to visit the Zoomarine - Dolphin Emotions.

Best of Algarve

Burgau

It is a quiet, relaxed village for most of the year with a selection of restaurants and bars to spend the evenings.
Praia de Burgau, located in the town of Burgau, is protected from the frequent north wind in this area of Algarve making it very pleasant for most people. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status and is among the top 10 beaches in Portugal.
There are shops in Burgau for your everyday needs, but if there is anything you are missing then the nearest supermarket is just 5 minutes by car.

Burgau

Luz

It is only 3 km away from Burgau. Long sandy beach which is overlooked by the town itself. An exceptional patterned cobbled promenade ( Avenida dos Pescadores ) runs from just below the pretty Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz ( Our Lady of the Light ) along the whole of the seafront to the cluster of beach bars. On the promenade, there are also several cafés, bars, restaurants and gift shops.

Luz

Lagos

It is just 15 minutes or so from Burgau. Is a historic and lively city. Lagos offers visitors glorious beaches, buzzing nightlife and a charming historic centre, which has retained its traditional character and charm.
Close to Lagos are variety of activities and sights, which range of waterparks and zoos through to historic monuments and challenging hiking trails.
Extending to the east of Lagos is the 4km long Meia Praia Beach, which is the longest sandy beach on the western side of the Algarve.

Lagos

Sagres

It is remoted and adventurous destination in southern Portugal. The small town is situated at the extreme western tip of the Algarve, a region of dramatic natural scenery, it is a destination where visitors come to embrace nature’s immense power. Just outside of town is the Cabo Sao Vicente, the most western point of mainland Europe.

Sagres

Portimão

It is the biggest town in the western Algarve. Portimão’s atlantic beach of Praia da Rocha has, over the years, become a resort in its own right with lots of hotels and apartments, restaurants and bars, discos and clubs and shops.

It is probably one of the best towns for shopping in the Algarve with retail parks and shopping malls galore!

Portimão

Ponta da Piedade

It is an idyllic setting of brown shaded rock formations that meet the greenish blue waters of the Atlantic below, being one of the main attractions of Lagos.

Around Ponta da Piedade there are lots of caves, grottoes and arches to duck into as you enjoy a one of the Ponta de Piedade boat trips, row in your kayak or paddle on your stand up paddle surfboard over the crystal-clear water.

Ponta da Piedade

Cave Benagil

It is one of the most widespread locals when the subject is the Algarve beaches, including the international press. No surprise, this beach / cave is incredibly beautiful. It is located close to the Benagil Beach.

The access is only by water, the first, easiest and most comfortable, is by boat. Tours leave from several beaches nearby and include this and other caves around.

Near the most famous beach of Algarve the Praia da Marinha.

Silves

It is a delightful and traditional Portuguese town that invites you for an enjoyable day trip. The peaceful ambience of the town today does not reflect the historical importance of Silves, which during the North African Moor’s rule of the Algarve (700-1200ad) was the capital and defensive stronghold of the entire region. Remnants of this illustrious era can be discovered throughout Silves, including the huge red brick castle, the striking city walls and defensive gates.

Silves

Monchique

It is a market town up in the Serra de Monchique, which is a thickly wooded mountain range separating the Algarve from Alentejo.
If the day is clear it is well worth continuing to drive to the highest point in the Algarve - Foia - which is 902 metres high. The view from here is fantastic - you can see from Cape St. Vincent in the west, to Faro in the east and to the Serra da Arrabida, near Lisbon, to the north!
Monchique is famous for is the production of Medronho liquer.

Praia do Amado is the most popular beach along the west coast, and is certainly the surfers’ favourite. Praia do Amado has the best places to watch the sunset.
Praia da Arrifana it boasts a really long narrow crescent of sands backed by black cliffs. The beach is ideal for surfers.
Praia da Bordeira is a huge beach, with so much space and it is backed by big sand dunes and a lovely warm lagoon.
